Position and Mentorship Overview
We are seeking an experienced Researcher who has a strong commitment to impactful storytelling and an eagerness to learn and grow in the industry as a Story Producer, Story Editor, Director, or Producer. This paid mentorship opportunity will provide hands-on experience and guidance while working on an exciting TV documentary project for CBC. You will work under the supervision of the Story Producer, Director, and Producer. This mentorship opportunity is designed to support long-term career growth, equipping you with skills that prepare you for sustained success in the industry.
Researcher Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough research to support the documentary’s narrative.
- Review archives and identify key segments.
- Read, analyze, and provide summaries of legal documents.
- Follow story developments in the news, and on social media.
- Assist in story development, and prepare master interviews.
- Collaborate closely with the production team, contributing creative ideas and insights.
- In post-production, assist in storytelling, identify key scenes, and annotate scripts.
Editorial Content Mentorship Program
- This mentorship is designed to provide in-depth exposure to the roles of Story Producer, Story Editor, Director, and Producer within documentary filmmaking
- They will provide guidance and feedback tailored to your professional development.
- Participate in discussions on various aspects of documentary production, including narrative development, interview techniques, and post-production processes.
- Gain on-set experience
Qualifications
- Experience : A background in research, journalism, or other relevant areas is an asset. We’re looking for someone with considerable expertise, but we recognize that talent can come from many paths. We encourage applications from those with diverse educational and experiential backgrounds, even if they do not meet every listed qualification.
- Language : Must be bilingual.
- Skills : Strong research, communication, and analytical skills in English are required. French verbal comprehension and communication skills are an asset.
- Attributes : Creative thinker with a passion for unscripted content.
- Citizenship: Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident.

Duration
- Contract Length : 6 months full-time or longer if part-time (contract length flexible).

Salary
Dependent on experience.
Office and work hours
- This role is a hybrid work arrangement in the office, approximately three days per week.
- Regular office hours are from Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, but sometimes, shoot days can be outside those days and hours.
