You Can’t Ask That is a documentary series that confronts prejudices and breaks down the taboos in our society in an entertaining and authentic format. A series that asks a group of misunderstood, marginalized or judged Canadians with various disabilities, the awkward, inappropriate or uncomfortable questions you’ve always wanted the answers to, but were too afraid to ask. Every episode features 6-8 individuals with the same disability as they sit in front of the camera and candidly answer questions submitted by the anonymous public. Looking directly down the lens, their replies cover the full range of human emotion and are often moving and always enlightening. Answers are intercut to provide different perspectives on every question from each of the individuals. Their answers are often punchy, entertaining, and sometimes irreverent, challenging the audience to rethink their current perspective and assumptions on the episode’s topic/disability. As each episode features one specific disability, but a variety of people, the audience is given a better understanding of the range of experiences these individuals have faced. Answers are intercut from one protagonist to another as the editing highlights effective comparisons between different stories and perspectives. Every question the cast pick up (which always comes from the public), is engaging and entertaining! Some individuals will laugh out loud when reading a totally surreal question. Others will tear their hair out in the face of such ignorance. Quirky, funny, but also deep questions are guaranteed to provoke lively reactions, punchy anecdotes and generate sincere reflections.
